Toning down his rhetoric against the Election Commission, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose on Monday asked all eight constituents of the front to strictly follow the EC guidelines, a week ahead of the first phase of elections to the West Bengal assembly on April 17.

"Model code of conduct and directives, issued by the EC, will have to be adhered to by all Front partners who will have to be extremely careful about provocations by opposition parties," Bose told reporters after a Front meeting in Kolkata.

Bose, who had been up in arms against the EC even a day earlier, particularly after it rejected the CPI(M)'s accusations that an EC observer ordered raids on the party's office at Keshpur in West Midnapore district, asked Front's partners to ensure that EC rules and regulations were not violated in any manner.

Asked if had 'softened' his attitude against the EC out of 'pressure', Bose shot back, "I spoke out before and there is no change in my stand".

"We have strictly asked our Front partners not to fall victim to opposition conspiracy even in the face of extreme provocation," Bose said.
