Sources said that a case was pending in court between members of a particular community and Ramlakhan Pandey, a resident of the same area who had filed a litigation in 1987 claiming for a passage. The court had issued a stay order in favour of Ramlakhan.Since then, the burial of dead bodies in this cemetery was suspended.

According to sources, in land record it was registered as cemetery land on plot number 726.

Meanwhile, three yeara ago, Adityanath granted Rs 30 lakh from his MP fund for construction of the approach road on this disputed land. The rural engineering department was the agency to carry out the construction . On Thursday, when Adityanath laid the foundation stone for construction of the approach road, members of a particular community approached the district administration and demanded that the foundation stone ceremony should be suspended.

The administration swung into action and tried to convince Adityanath that the matter was pending in court and therefore, no work should be done on this land but failed to convince him. Adityanath blamed the administration for creating hindrance in the work of public welfare.

Sources said members of the particular community also approached Adityanath for settling the dispute but to no avail. However, Adityanath blamed the district administration for persuing policy of appeasement towards a particular community.
