Cong exudes confidence
UTTAR PRADESh Congress Committee spokesman Kishore Varshney on Monday said the enthusiasm seen among the people during electioneering led the party to believe that its mayoral candidate Jitendra Nath Singh would win the election.
Talking to reporters he said, the anti-incumbency factor would also trouble SP candidate because people were fed up with the government. He said the Congress candidate was enjoying the support of every segment of the society.
This was largely because of his clean image, he added. Varshney urged people for Singh.
‘Vote without fear’
INDEPENDENT MAYORAL candidate Dr Anupam Jaiswal appealed to the public to assess the candidates properly and cast their vote without fear. Addressing mediapersons here on Monday Dr Jaiswal said voters should not vote on caste lines. He urged the State Election Commission to ensure that a free and fair election was conducted.
He promised the public to reduce the ever increasing taxes and check the harassment of the public by the government. He said that he would give non-commercial status to shops opened by poor people in their residences and work for development of the city.
He said he would ensure that the Nagar Nigam did its duty properly and weed out corruption.
Identity proof
THE ELECTION Commission has issued directives that the voter must carry any one of the following documents while going to cast vote. This has been done to ensure free and fair election.
The identity proof, as declared by the EC, includes passport, permanent account number card, identity cards issued to employees of Central/State Government, public sector undertakings, driving licence, bank/kisan/post office pass book and the ration card issued on January (1, 2006). Besides, certificate of SC/ST or OBC issued by competent authority, student identity card, arms licence, conductor licence issued by transport officer, pension note-book/ pension payment order/ property papers/ registry deed, certificate of widow or dependent of deceased employee, railway/bus pass, handicapped certificate, freedom fighter’s certificate, voters identity card issued by Election Commission will be considered valid document.
Additional district magistrate (administration)/deputy district election officer (local bodies) Allahabad said in a press release that in case where the voter fails to present any of the proofs, the presiding officer will initiate inquiry into the identity of the voter.
