Chief animal husbandry officer of Varanasi Dr Chandrashekhar Prasad said the poultry farm owners were strictly directed to not to import any infected birds from the affected States.
He also isaid that people were advised not to consume chicken meat which was roasted or cooked under a temperature of 70 degree Centigrade. “People should consume meat after ensuring that it has been cooked for more than half an hour at a temperature of 70 degree centigrade and above,” he said.
Dr Chandrashekhar said that all precautionary steps had been taken in this direction to combat any possible attack of bird flu in Varanasi.
“Twenty blood samples of chicken have been sent for examination to the Bhopal laboratory, the result of which is awaited,” Dr Chandrashekhar said.
Chief medical officer Dr AP Singh said that no case of bird flu was found in Varanasi but health administration has already ensured all necessary arrangements in this direction. “Two separate temporary wards have already been functioning in the Shiv Prasad Gupta Divisional Hospital and Deen Dayal Hospital,” he said.
All precautionary measures which were initiated in the month of February to combat possible attack of bird flu were still being implemented, he added.
Dr Singh said, a team of medical experts including Deputy CMO Dr DV Prasad, Chest physician Dr NP Singh and pathologist Dr Thakur earlier underwent training and orientation course in Lucknow in view of any possible attack of bird flu.
“There is not a single suspected case of bird flu here but all necessary precautionary steps have been taken by the health administration here in this regard,” he said.
