Now, instead of making preparations, the local BJP unit and the district administration are busy blaming each other for calling off Advani’s rally. While the District Election Officer and Azamgarh District Magistrate, G.S. Priyadarshi, said the party’s local unit had cancelled the rally, the BJP men said the administration had cancelled it over security concerns.

Advani was slated to address a public meeting in Azamgarh on Saturday after attending rallies in Kushinagar and Maharajganj districts back-to-back. The BJP had strategically slotted the rally for Saturday, the day when party heavyweight Ramakant
Yadav files his nomination for the Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat.

“The district administration denied us permission stating security reasons because of the filing of nominations,” BJP’s Azamgarh district president Vinod Rai said on Wednesday.

However, Priyadarshi has dismissed all of BJP’s allegations.

The BJP now plans to hold the rally on April 9, when Advani, Varun Gandhi and Narendra Modi will also attend a rally in the Jaunpur district, Rai said.
