Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had last week said in Imphal that the government needed to consider amendments to the law to protect basic human and civil rights. The home ministry is working on the matter.

Antony said the army was not opposed to amending some provisions of the Act. "There's no question of repealing the Act. Only necessary amendments will be made," he told reporters while flagging off an army car rally from here to Yangon.
