On the lines of the UPA and the NDA, former Prime Minister VP Singh on Tuesday announced formation of the Jan Morcha Alliance comprising several smaller parties.
Raj Babbar-led Jan Morcha, which was now rechristened as Jan Dal, will be a leading constituent of the Alliance, Singh told reporters.
The cine star-turned-politician will be the convenor of the Jan Morcha Alliance, he said after a meeting of its constituents.
The Alliance would contest the coming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, the former Prime Minister said adding it would soon launch a campaign to propagate its ideology in the state.
Reacting to petro price hike, he said the Centre should issue ration cards to farmers to enable them to buy diesel at subsidised rates.
On wheat imports, Singh said a probe should be held on how Australian wheat was purchased ignoring the interest of Indian farmers.
He tried to put the UP government on the mat for allotting land to Reliance Energy in Dadri saying it should be returned to farmers as the company had failed to meet the deadline of power generation.
Raj Babbar said on August seven, the Indian Justice Party, a constituent of the Jan Morcha Alliance, would celebrate "Mandal Diwas" in Delhi in which Singh would be honoured.
