Wishing Schumacher speedy recovery, Omar Abdullah said on micro blogging site Twitter: "Really sad to hear about #Schumacher. Hope he makes a quick recovery. Can't believe I've been skiing off-piste all these years sans helmet."

Off-piste skiing refers to skiing on unmarked slopes, as Schumacher had done in France on Sunday. The formula one champion suffered brain injury when he banged his head against a rock, and has undergone surgery.

"I have always shrugged off advice to get a skiing helmet, but no longer. Am going to have to arrange one PDQ (pretty damn quick)."

Omar, a ski enthusiast, admitted on Monday that he had been skiing without a helmet till now.
