AIADMK councillor, friend arrested for cutting neem trees

An AIADMK Councillor of Srivilliputhur Municipality and his friend have been arrested for allegedly cutting Neem trees, belonging to the local body at the premises around the town Overhead Water tank.

Officials said Municipality Commissioner Muthukannan,who inspected the site, was shocked to see the trees cut into 13 huge logs. An enquiry with the watchman revealed that the councillor of 27th ward Santhanamurthy and his friend had cut the trees and were planning to smuggle them.
