AIWC hostel inmates create ruckus over mess closure

The hostel was echoed with heated arguments between the warden and the inmates as the later complained of no prior information regarding closure of the mess from Tuesday.

The hostel was echoed with heated arguments between the warden and the inmates as the later complained of no prior information regarding closure of the mess from Tuesday.
The inmates alleged that they woke up in the morning to find that they would not be able to take the service of mess as the same had been closed. According to the girls there had been rumour on earlier occasions that the mess service would be closed, however, nothing happened. This time also there were rumours however, no official confirmation thus the girls did not take it seriously.
However, it was on Tuesday that the inmates came to know that they would not be able to utilise the mess service.
Hostel warden Meena Srivastava said that she received a notice from president Saroj Budhwar regarding closure of mess on Monday at 4 pm but was put on the notice board around 11pm. She rubbished the claims of the hostlers that they did not have prior information regarding mess closure.
On the other hand, hostlers said that they didn’t find anything on the notice board. They even said that the information was given verbally to some inmates without 15 days prior notice. Besides, the hostlers were also ruing the fact that the rent of a single room at present was Rs 900 which had been raised to Rs 2200. A room for two girls had been raised to Rs 1800, for three girls the room rent had been hiked to Rs 1400 and for the four girl room the rent had been raised from Rs 700 to Rs 1200. They said that it was stated in the rules and regulation that only 10 per cent inflation rate would be added to monthly fees but the hike was much more. The hostlers said that they were told that a meeting would be held on May 9 but when they reached the spot the meeting was over. And now president Saroj Budhwar has asked the girls to vacate the hostel soon.
However, the president when contacted said the hostlers never paid attention towards the meeting organised by the higher authorities. She also said that a notice was issued by the hostel authorities to the hostlers on May 15 itself stating that the mess services would be closed from Tuesday. The notice also stated that the girls should immediately vacate the hostel.
She added that the hostel was running through donations and now the situation was that they were being forced to borrow things from market. Budhwar further said that most of the hostlers were employed and were availing every facility provided by the hostel.
She stated that if the hostlers want then a decision could be taken in the presence of the DM or any district administration official.
