Aiyar asks oil majors to help tsunami victims

The Minister said he would spend his total allocation under MP's local area development fund for the welfare of Nagapattinam fishermen.

Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar has asked public sector oil companies to rush help to the tsunami victims of Nagapattinam district in Tamil Nadu.

Aiyar has asked Gas Authority of India Limited to send big tanks to supply drinking water to the affected people. Other public sector oil companies would send cranes, bulldozers, dump trucks, carrier vehicles and other equipments to effectively coordinate rescue and relief operations.

The minister said that he would spend his total allocation under MP's local area development fund for the welfare of the fishermen in the area.

He said it would be ensured that the affected children get all facilities for their education at the earliest.
