The Uttar Pradesh government may also start at BR Ambedkar Multi-speciality Hospital in Noida an extension campus of an established medical college, in what is being seen as a major policy shift in former chief minister Mayawati’s dream projects.

These two state-of-the-art hospitals were started as part of Mayawati’s dream projects in the district. On Thursday, top state government officials, including the director of Sanjay Gandhi Post-graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, the vice-chancellor of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University, principal secretary (health education), besides the CEO of Greater Noida authority, held a high-level meeting in Lucknow and discussed these options.

“The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will open its campus in Noida. Last year, IIT Roorkee opened such a centre in Greater Noida. Noida also has an IIM Lucknow campus. We’re mulling a similar Noida extension campus of an established medical college in the state at BR Ambedkar Multi-speciality Hospital,” said a senior official, who attended the Thursday’s meeting.
