“In the toll plaza attendant murder case, the fact emerged that the accused did not have any reason to kill him. The accused was not indulged with the victim for any greed, anger, jealously, revenge, or pride but he did it as he lost his thinking power due to alcohol,” said Dr Brahamdeep Sindhu, senior psychiatrist at Civil Hospital.

Liquor directly affects a person’s ability to think and make judgments and they get the courage to commit a crime without thinking of the consequences, Dr Sindhu said, adding that a person under the influence of liquor get involved in violence even with strangers.

Liquor or drug use triggers many violent crimes such as murder, sexual assault and robbery, he said.

People involved in such crimes have dual personalities. When they drink, their negative side comes up and they start behaving wrongly as they do not have any fear of law.
