An order in this regard was issued on Monday night, official sources said.

Puducherry recorded 64.9 MM rainfall in the last twenty four hours, ending 0830 hrs on Tuesday.

Strong winds in the town and suburban areas uproored a number of trees.

Lakes on the outskirts of Puducherry, especially manapet lake, have received copious inflows since the last few days.

Meanwhile people in certain areas resorted to an agitation before the slum clearance board office on Tuesday after their homes were inundated and demanded that authorities provide them tenements as promised.

Police and revenue officials intervened and pacified the agitators.
