Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seems to have forgotten that good politics is bad economics (Govt’s schemes to hold prices come to nought, March 5). On the one hand while his government claims to be working towards curbing inflation, on the other, the finance minister increased the prices of petrol and diesel. The increase in fuel prices will increase the transportation cost of almost all other commodities. It is surprising how the prime minister has failed to realise this simple fact. It is indeed high time the government brings down the prices of essential goods.
