Chetan Anand and Jwala Gutta failed to make it to the main draw of China Open badminton championship at Chengdu, bowing out in the men's and women's singles respectively in the qualification round.

Anand, who got a bye in the first round, went down fighting 21-19 20-22 21-18 to Yu Li of China.
Jwala also lost to a Chinese. Wen Li got the better of her 21-14 21-9.
Shruti Kurian is the only Indian in the women's singles main draw and meets Shao-Chieh Cheng of Chinese Taipei in the first round.
In women's doubles, Jwala and Kurian have got a direct entry and will play Johanna Persson and Elin Bergblom of Sweden in the first round.
The trio is participating in the championship on their own.
