Democracy and anger merged in a rather unique combination this year. Even as the ruling NDA went overboard with its India Shining campaign in the face of record suicides by farmers, in more than one state, the people gave a resounding rejoinder in the Lok Sabha. BJP, which had just a few months ago won record victories in three major states, found it hard to accept the harsh, and to itself incomprehensible, loss. The meanderings of the Ayodhya conflict, yet again keeping people at sea, aroused fresh resentment.

Anger expressed itself publicly in Spain as well, where the first western democratically government elected since the collapse of USSR came to power in Spain, directly affected by the horrific train blasts by militants.
