Angry mob torches truck

AN agitated mob torched a truck and brickbatted the police here on Friday, when the vehicle crushed a youth. The accident occurred when some cops tried to extort money from the truck driver, who tried to escape and crushed a motorcycle rider in the process. According to sources, some cops forcibly stopped a truck at Cooperganj crossing under the Collectorganj police circle and asked for money from the driver.

According to sources, some cops forcibly stopped a truck at Cooperganj crossing under the Collectorganj police circle and asked for money from the driver.

The driver refused to bribe them and tried to escape as the cops ran behind the truck. When the driver accelerated the vehicle, he lost control and crushed one Mohammad Ahmed, resident of Coolie Bazaar, coming from the opposite direction on his bike.

The locals watching all this got angry and chased the cops and also set the truck on fire.

The truck driver, however, managed to escape from the scene. The Collectorganj police then fired in the air and lathicharged the people, who were trying to block the road. The mob retaliated and attacked the policeman with bricks. Three fire fighters and two policemen were seriously injured in the attack.

After three hour of chaos, SP City Sabha Raj Singh and ADM reached the site of the accident.

They assured the people of a fair investigation and action against all the guilty. An FIR has been lodged in this case.
