Tedious, busy work and annoying customers waste the most company time, according to a representative survey by German research organisation Gewis-Institute.

The survey was done at the instance of the Munich-based magazine Freundin.

Busy work was the biggest reason for lost productivity, according to 34 per cent of respondents. Annoying customers were cited by 33 per cent.

A total of 1,048 respondents aged between 18 and 60 were interviewed for the survey.

According to an additional 28 per cent of the respondents, private telephone conversations and colleagues lacking punctuality were major workday disruptors.

Further, about one in five people stated that they spent too much time dealing with a daily flood of emails.
