A batch of nearly 2,000 pilgrims left the Jammu base camp for the cave shrine of Amaranth in south Kashmir amid tight security arrangements.
As per police sources, the 11th batch of pilgrims, consisting of 1,974 devotees left Bhagwati Nagar base camp, Jammu, around 5am, police said, adding that the convoy included 65 vehicles. The batch, including 1,396 males, 455 females, 23 children and 100 sadhus, left for Srinagar to perform Amarnath Yatra in a convoy of 65 vehicles, including 42 buses and 23 light motor vehicles, they said.
In 11 days, 25,348 pilgrims have left the Jammu base camp for Amaranth so far.
Meanwhile, a fresh batch of more than 11,000 pilgrims left for the Amarnath cave shrine from both Baltal and Pahalgam base camps on Sunday morning. Police sources said 5,065 yatirs comprising 4,025 males, 1,017 females and 23 sadhus left the Baltal base camp for holy cave.
Another batch of 6,178 yatris comprising 5,029 males, 1,070 females and 79 sadhus left the Pahalgam base camp on the traditional yatra route.
A total of 1,402 yatris also left for the holy cave through chopper service on Sunday.
So far, 1.16 lakh pilgrims have performed darshans till Saturday during the yatra that started on June 28.
