A month after the alleged rape and murder of three minor sisters, another minor girl was raped in Bhandara district on Wednesday.
The accused, Homraj Walsare, 22, was arrested on Thursday. On Tuesday, Homraj had visited the 12-year-old when she was alone in the house and allegedly assaulted her.
"Homraj has admitted to the crime. The girl has been sent for medical examination," said Santosh Kumbhare, deputy superintendent of police.
The police are yet to solve the murder of the three sisters in Murmadi. The preliminary postmortem report had indicated that they had been raped and murdered. But forensic findings contradicted it. The final report was also inconclusive on whether the girls had been murdered.
Violence in Chandauli after gang rape
Guwahati: A mob set the Sakaldiha tehsil office in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district on fire, after policemen refused to lodge a complaint relating to the gang rape of a 12-year-old girl.
The Class 7 student was gang raped by five men in Sakaldiha on Wednesday evening. On Thursday morning, the family went to lodge a complaint. But when the police refused to cooperate, locals blocked the Ali Nagar-Mughalsarai road. A clash began when the police reached the protest site. The protesters attacked the police station and set the tehsil office on fire.
Later, an FIR was lodged in the case. "We have launched an operation to arrest the accused," said deputy inspector general A Satish Ganesh.
Meghalaya gang rape: Officials admit victim was intimidated
Officials in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district have admitted that the December 13 gang rape victim and the members of her family are being intimidated. No formal complaint, however, has been made in this regard.
The 16-year-old victim had been raped by 17 people - eight of them minors - while on her way home from a local festival. All the accused have been arrested. One of her alleged assailants is related to a minister, another to an extremist leader.
"We came to know of certain pressures on her parents but we haven't received a formal complaint," said Pravin Bakshi, deputy commissioner, West Garo Hills.
Officials said the girl has been kept isolated as certain individuals and pressure groups are intent on meeting her to get the case withdrawn.
