Another Saradha depositor commits suicide

“Biswas had deposited around Rs. 2 lakh with a Saradha agent named Pradeep Sahu. On Friday, he returned home around 10 pm and asked for food. Then he went upstairs and hanged himself,” said a family member. On April 21, Urmila Pramanik, 50, of Baruipur in South-24 Parganas district set herself on fire at her home. She had invested Rs. 30,000 with Saradha. On the same day, Lakshman Ghorai, a resident of Diamond Harbour, too, consumed acid and died.

On Saturday, depositors in North 24 Parganas demanded the return of their money from Iliyas Shahji, a chit fund owner. Matters turned worse when Shahji was found absconding.
