Anti-JE drive kicks off today

Senior officials will monitor the drive. Director general, Medical Health, Dr B Nath may conduct an inspection on May 17.
Additional director, Health, Dr DP Mishra said efforts were launched on a war footing to cover about 43 lakh children in the age group of 1 to 15 years during the vaccination drive in the division. He said 13.90 lakh children would be immunised in Gorakhpur, 7.76 lakh in Maharajganj, 10.74 lakh in Deoria and 10.85 lakh children in Kushinagar. He appealed to all non-government organisations to extend their support to ensure the success of the drive.
Talking to mediapersons, Dr Mishra said 18 lakh doses of the vaccine and 18.10 lakh AD syringes had been allocated to Gorakhpur, 11.05 lakh doses and 6 lakh AD syringes to Kushinagar, 11 lakh doses and 5.2 lakh AD syringes to Deoria district, and 8.5 lakh doses and 9.70 lakh AD syringes to Maharajganj district.
As many as 6,710 Anganwadi activists, 5,000 primary teachers and 1,828 Asha volunteers will be deployed during the drive. Each team, consisting of five members would immunise 125 children at the centre daily, he added.
As many as 4,396 centres have been set up in Gorakhpur, 2,210 in Deoria and 2411 in Kushinagar.
District officials have finalised a schedule for vaccination. Divisional commissioner Dr Moolchand Yadav has asked all panchayat officers, block development officers and other village heads to give the drive wide publicity in their respective areas.
He made it clear the vaccine would be effective against Japanese Encephalitis.
Chief medical superintendent Dr MN Yadav said the drive would be carried out in Kusmaul, Malaon, Jalhalia, Pakri, Gajpur and other villages of Kauriram on May 15.
Similarly, the expected strength of children and booths has been identified
He further said 24 booths were set up for urban areas. These booths have been established at Jafra Bazaar, Humayunpur, Turkmanpur, Civil Lines, Gorakhnath, Chhote Qazipur, Diwan Bazaar, Purdilpur, Betiahata, Jharna Tola, Mohaddipur, Basantpur, Nizampur, Air Force, University, PAC centre and engineering college.
Pulse Polio drive
THE PULSE polio immunisation drive, scheduled on May 21, would be postponed in view of the anti-JE vaccination drive, said additional director, Health, DP Mishra.
Though the district administration has made a micro plan for launching the drive, the common man is not aware of it due to lack of publicity.
