Army ensuring we’re in a position to debate freedom of speech: Dhoni

MS Dhoni called for respect to the armed forces, saying that the nation is in a position to debate freedom of expression because of the men in uniform.

Amid continuing uproar on the issue of freedom of expression in the country, Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Sunday called for respect to the armed forces, saying that the nation is in a position to debate the issue because of the men in uniform.

Dhoni holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army.

His comments come in the backdrop of a raging debate on freedom of expression after an event against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
