Five armed, masked robbers struck an upscale Gurgaon home in broad daylight on Sunday morning, holding the residents hostage for over 90 minutes while they ransacked the house.
They finally locked all six members of Rajinder Kalra’s family, who were at home — including two women and a one-year-old — in the bathroom, before escaping.
Sector 15 in Gurgaon houses former ministers, top bureaucrats and police officers. But that proved no deterrent for the robbers who struck around 11.15 am, brandishing revolvers and knives, assaulted some of the family members and repeatedly threatened to kidnap the one-year-old if details of the wealth kept in the house was not revealed to them.
“A young man with his face covered entered our house and slapped my mother,” said Nitin Kalra (28), one of those at home, an HR executive with a multinational company. “He was followed by four more, all of them armed. They started to abuse, slap and beat us all up.”
Kalra said the robbers took away Rs 3-4 lakh that included cash, gold and silver jewellery as well as debit and credit cards.
