The gunmen opened fire, resulting in critical injuries to Naib Subedar Gurdayal Singh, who later succumbed to injuries, they said. The troops fired back towards the positions of gunmen, forcing them to flee back to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, they said, adding search operations were going on in the area.

More than a dozen infiltration bids have been foiled along the LoC in Kupwara district during the month of August.
