An Army officer today allegedly shot himself dead with his father's licensed revolver following rift with his wife, police said.

Circle officer of Cantt Police station Dharmendra Singh said Lt Colonel R K Vajpayee (40), was posted in Guwahati and had come here on a 10-day leave.
He was alone at home when he shot himself, Singh said, adding he died on the spot.
His Father, D S Vajpayee -- who was also in the Army, told reporters that his son was under depression after his wife, along with their two children, left him and had been with her parents for over a year following some tension between them.
He wanted to bring them back, but she had been refusing to come.
Nobody has been arrested so far and investigation into the incident was on, the police added.
