The incident, they claimed, took place in Mohiuddinpur village under Kaushambi police station in the same district with the connivance of the local pradhan who didn’t see eye to eye with the husband of one of the complainants Asha Devi.
According to them, it all started when Asha Devi’s husband Rajendra Prasad contested the last election of pradhan. Though he lost to Shashi Kant Tripathi, the new pradhan bore a grudge against him.
Meanwhile, Rajendra objected to a pond being dug up by the new pradhan. When Tripathi refused to pay any heed, Rajendra Prasad took pictures of the pond, inviting the wrath of the pradhan who allegedly connived with the police to teach a lesson to Rajendra Prasad and his family.
Recently, the station officer of Kaushambi along with several cops visited Asha Devi’s house in the absence of her husband and two brothers in law, who are also in the army and had come home on leave.
Not finding the men at home, the cops barged into the house, ransacked it , hurled abuses at the inmates and even physically assaulted the women.
When the men returned, they were taken to the police station and put behind bars on false charges. The cops did not even inform the unit of the defence personnel about the action taken against the three.
Asha Devi and the wives of the other two defence personnel have now beckoned the chairperson of the National Women’s Commission to ensure that the erring cops were punished for their unlawful act.
They also sought the intervention of senior police officers as the cops at the local level were hand in glove with the pradhan.
The fax message sent to the chairperson also carried photo copies of the medical report of the injuries the women suffered at the hands of the cops.
They alleged the pradhan was still threatening the family with dire consequences.
