MANY LOCALITIES in the city plunged into darkness following the heavy rain that lashed the city on Friday night and disrupted the power supply.

The faults remained unattended till Saturday afternoon. The power supply to the GSVM Medical College could not be restored.

This affected the patients in the hospitals associated with the college.

Despite the best efforts, the KESCo team could not locate the faults in the power supply cable connecting the Medical College and the LLR Hospital.

Consequently, the doctors suspended operations and advised the patients to go to private hospitals that have generator facilities.

The water supply was also disrupted in many areas connected with Benajhabar Waterworks.

The people had to go without water on Saturday morning.

The KESCO officials said that in most areas the faults were in underground cables. It would take time to remove the faults, they added.

However, the faults in the overhead cables were removed.

They further said that the faults that could not identified could not be corrected and efforts were being made to remove the faults.

The power failure also affected counseling at the GSVM Medical College and at the Harcourt Butler Technological Institute.
