SANYOGITAGANJ POLICE have registered an attempt to murder case under Section 307 of IPC against Congress MLA Ashwin Joshi and three others for shooting at Congress corporator for ward 43 Iftekar ‘Munna’ Ansari past night.

This is the second time that Joshi has been booked under Section 307. Earlier, he had been booked by the Central Kotwali police station for allegedly beating up Bajrang Dal leader Kamal Waghela.

According to information, the incident occurred at around midnight yesterday when Munna Ansari and his friend Abrar Ansari were returning home from the City bus office on A B Road opposite the MGM Medical College on their motorcycle after making daily collection from conductor of the City bus the former owns.

Abrar told police and media persons that as they were driving, four persons on a scooter and a motorcycle came up to them and shot Ansari in his stomach and then fled.

Abrar identified the four assailants as Congress MLA Ashwin Joshi, Munna Sharma, Ilias Khan and another person.
Abrar said he rushed Ansari to MY Hospital, from where he was taken to CHL Apollo Hospital where he was operated upon and now is out of danger.

SP Adarsh Katiyar said that the alibis of all four persons named in the FIR by Abrar were being crosschecked by the police. He said the truth would come out only after a detailed investigation.

Ansari supporters force shop closure
AS THE news of the attack on Ansari filtered through this morning a large number of his supporters tried to close shops in the Jawahar Marg area. The incident occurred at around 10 am, when many of the shops were still closed and only a few had barely opened.

Ansari’s supporters forced many of the shops to close down. Meanwhile, the police were informed about it and they reached the spot and drove away Ansari’s supporters and the shops reopened within a short time. However, just as a precaution, the police started patrolling the area and stationed some force there.

Ansari’s supporters also gathered at CHL Apollo Hospital and wanted to see their leader. But, the doctors at the hospital ruled that they could not allow so many persons to disturb the patient.

Attack linked to fight
THE ATTACK on Ansari is being linked to the altercation that Joshi had with him yesterday evening over a boring at Jhanda Chowk in Ranipura area. Apparently, the motor of the boring was not working and Ashwin Joshi said that since he had got the motor installed, no one should remove it without his permission.

An eyewitness to the altercation, Nayeem, told media-persons that Ashwin Joshi had threatened that he would teach Ansari a lesson.

Ashwin Joshi and Munna Ansari have never seen eye to eye. During the last corporation election, Ansari had to fight as an independent candidate as Congress party, thanks to Joshi’s insistence, denied him a ticket. Nevertheless, Ansari managed to win and was later taken back into the Congress fold.

Conspiracy, cries Ashwin
TALKING TO Hindustan Times, MLA Ashwin Joshi denied his involvement in the entire matter. “This is utter rubbish. I am a political person and I do not go about shooting people. Am I a goonda?” He said that this was a conspiracy to malign his image and also to ensure that he could not fight the next elections. Joshi agreed that Ansari was his political rival in the party and the two of them had their differences in the past.

On the altercation between them at Jhanda Chowk, he said that what happened was in the open in front of dozens of people. “Ansari and his men had taken out the motor of the boring near Ranipura square for repairs and my contention was that since

I had installed the boring and the motor, they should have at least informed me before removing it. In any case by the time I reached the spot the motor had been repaired and they were putting it back. What is more, one of Ansari’s supporters was arguing with me, and in fact Ansari apologised to me over the issue at that spot,” Joshi clarified.
