Assam flood situation grim, over 3 lakh hit

The flood situation in Assam turned grim on Friday with inundations of several areas by surging waters of tributaries of Brahmaputra river.

The flood situation in Assam turned grim on Friday with inundations of several areas by surging waters of tributaries of Brahmaputra river.

In the worst-hit districts of Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Jorhat, vast tracts of land were submerged due to breaches in embankments caused by heavy rains in the foothills of the Himalayas in Arunachal Pradesh.

Assam Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation minister Bhumidhar Barman said about three lakh people were affected in the current flood in the state.

“Laximpur , Majuli in Jorhat district , Dhemaji , Kampur revenue block in Nagaon district , South Salmara in Dhubri district have been affected in the flood”, he said.
