Sixty-two constituencies spread over 13 districts of Upper Assam, Barak Valley and two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar, will go to polls on April 4.

A total of 172 candidates have filed their nominations so far. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on Friday. The last date for the withdrawal of nominations is March 21.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi filed his nomination from the Titabor assembly constituency in Jorhat district on Wednesday.

Later talking to reporters, Gogoi said: "I am sure we will win. I said, whatever we need for a majority, on our own, will get it."

Expressing concern over militants creating problems during the polls, Gogoi said the rebel United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has always created problems for the state government and public.

Assam will hold elections on April 4 and April 11. In all, 23,813 polling booths have been set up for 18 million voters to exercise their franchise.
