A rocket attack on the US embassy compound in Baghdad's Green Zone killed two Americans and wounded four, a US embassy spokesman said on Saturday.

"It hit near the embassy building," embassy spokesman Bob Callahan said. "There are two dead and four who are wounded...all Americans."

Most of the US embassy's staff work in Saddam Hussein's former Republican Palace, a huge building inside the Green Zone. The US ambassador and other senior staff work in a separate building.
