AU Law freshers accorded warm welcome by juniors
?FRESHERS? WELCOME 2006? was organised by the students of Allahabad University?s Law Faculty amidst much fanfare at Rajarshi Tandon Garden on Monday. AU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe was the chief guest while AU proctor Prof Jata Shankar was the guest of honour at the function. Prof Harshe inaugurated the programme by lighting a lamp and garlanding the portrait of goddess Saraswati.
‘FRESHERS’ WELCOME 2006’ was organised by the students of Allahabad University’s Law Faculty amidst much fanfare at Rajarshi Tandon Garden on Monday. AU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe was the chief guest while AU proctor Prof Jata Shankar was the guest of honour at the function. Prof Harshe inaugurated the programme by lighting a lamp and garlanding the portrait of goddess Saraswati.
Addressing the students, Prof Harshe emphasised upon raising the status of the varsity and urged the teachers and students to put their best to attain academic excellence. He said that the students should take advantage of the five-year LLB course offered by AU at a nominal fee.
He encouraged the students for organising such events besides the academic activities in the varsity. Prof Jatashankar also advocated for organising such events, which help in improving the atmosphere of the varsity.
Several entertainment and literary items were presented. Nivedita Shukla and Ajitesh Mohan mesmerised the audience by their solo songs while Shashi Pratap broke the audience into laughter by his comic performance on the stage. Amit Srivastava and Sandeep Pandey recited poetry while Rajeev, Harish and Kalpana presented songs. The stage was rocked by a performance on Kajrare-Kajrare by Ajitesh and Nivedita.
UPRTOU SAF scholarship
Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) public relations officer PC Mishra said that applications were invited on the prescribed forms pursuing a PG Degree or vocational diploma course (excluding MBA and Bachelor Programmes) for the South Asia Foundation (SAF) scholarships for 2006-07.
Mishra said that the prescribed application forms are available at the nearest UPRTOU Study Centre/Regional Centre free of cost or on the SAF website : http://www.southasiafoundation.org. up to September 30, 2006. The applicants should send their complete application forms latest by October 30, 2006 under a safe Registration/Speed Post cover to the Coordinator, SAF Scholarship Scheme, 12/12, Kamla Nehru Marg (near KP Girls under College), Allahabad-211001.
There will be an interview of the eligible applications on 20th November 2006, at 10 AM sharp at the above-mentioned venue 12/12, Kamla Nehru Marg. Some of the other requirements are that the applicant has to be a current member of SAF, he/she should not be above the age of 30 years on 01.01.2007, the family income should be below Rs 1,20,000 per annum and proof of age, income and category status should be attached.
