AU team to play inter-varsity football tourney in Uttaranchal

AN 18-MEMBER football team of Allahabad University (AU)? including 16 players, a coach and a team manager? will leave Allahabad to participate in the North-zone Inter University Football Championship on Thursday.

AN 18-MEMBER football team of Allahabad University (AU)— including 16 players, a coach and a team manager— will leave Allahabad to participate in the North-zone Inter University Football Championship on Thursday.

The championship is all set to be held at the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garwhal University in Uttaranchal between January 19 and 27. The AU squad is scheduled play its first match on January 21.

Indranil Ghosh, an AU student of MCom-III, has been selected as the captain of the team. Trained by Sports Authority of India (SAI), Indranil has represented AU at the North-Zone Inter University Football Championship for three continuous years: 2001-02 (Kurukshetra), 2003-04 (Aligarh) and 2003-04 (Pantnagar). As a goalkeeper, he has also been conferred with the AU Football Colour Award in 2003-04 for outstanding performance on the field.

The team included Indranil Ghosh (Goalkeeper and captain), Shashi Mohan Mishra, Pradeep Malviya, Amber Jaiswal, Ashish Gupta, Sanjeev Singh, Sunil Nigam, Raj Kumar Yadav, Imran, Ashok Kumar Nawait, Rahul Kumar, Jai Prakash Lal, Avinash Kanujia, Vidya Sagar, Pradeep Deo Singh and Vinay Giri.

Allahabad sporting club wins football tourney: ALLAHABAD SPORTING Club won the State-level Late Lallan Singh Football tournament played at Kushinagar recently. The club defeated Young Ansar Club, Mau, in the final match by 4-3 .Earlier, the team defeated Gorkha Boys Gorakhpur by 1-0.
