AU yet to act against accused

A PROGRAMMER working for the Allahabad University's Administrative Computer Centre has been accused of committing a forgery and handing over a fake mark-sheet to a former varsity student.

While the student, on discovering the forgery, has lodged an FIR at the George Town police station against the programmer and informed the university administration about it more than a month back, AU administration has not only failed to initiate any action against the programmer but has also not bothered to shift him from the Computer Centre— that handles the confidential and sensitive task of preparing mark-sheets of all varsity students.
According to the complaint submitted by the victim, Saroj Kumar Bhartiya, a resident of Bahadurpur under Sarai Inayat police station in Allahabad, he was a student of BCom-I at AU in 2002-03 and worked as a casual labourer to meet his expenses.
"I was approached by Murleesh Srivastava, a programmer working at AU's Administrative Computer Centre, one fine morning in June 2002.
He promised to get me a job in lieu of working at his Baghambari Road house.
In the meantime, I passed BCom-I in 2003 and appeared for my BCom-II exams but failed to clear one of the subjects.
I then appeared for the back paper exam but failed to clear that. Murleesh then made me fill the form for re-scrutiny of the paper and assured me that he will ensure that I pass with his clout and contacts," informed Saroj Kumar.
He claimed that as he was sure to clear the BCom-II with Murleesh's help, he continued to prepare for the final year exams and also kept working at Murleesh's house.
"Before the final year exams, Murleesh gave me my BCom-II mark-sheet showing 31 marks in the paper in which earlier I was awarded 26 marks and he informed me that my marks have increased during the re-scrutiny.
He also assured me that he had deposited my final year fee too. However, when the final year results were declared, my results were withheld due to 'Biodata missing'," added Saroj Kumar.
He said that when he tried to enquire about this from Murleesh, he failed to give any clear answer and started to also demand the second year mark-sheet that Murleesh had given to him.
"Then I myself enquired about my marks from the varsity and discovered that I had actually not cleared the second year exams.
This time when I approached Murleesh at his home, he abused and assaulted me," Saroj claimed in his complaint.
Following the incident, Saroj said, he went to George Town police station to register a complaint but was not entertained. "I them moved Court and on November 9, 2005, the Special CJM Court ordered registration of the FIR. The FIR was finally registered on November 30, 2005," he added.
On being contacted, In-charge of the Administrative Computer Centre, Prof Satyanarayan, confirmed receipt of the complaint. "I have informed the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and the Controller of Exams about it. As soon as a replacement is provided, Murleesh will be shifted from the Centre," he said.
AU Registrar Prof US Rai said, "I have inquired about the matter from the AU Exam Controller and not yet received his reply." He, however said, he has come to know that Murleesh has denied the charges levelled against him and termed it as a conspiracy to malign him.
AU Controller of Exams Prof HS Upadhyaya, meanwhile, gave a clean chit to Murleesh. "We have found no wrong doing on the part of Murleesh and the increase of marks in the mark-sheet is only due to human error. Even the former AU Controller of Exam Prabhat Ranjan was of this opinion," he said.
