Azad congratulates UN awardee Shakti Devi

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad today congratulated Shakti Devi, recipient of the International Female Police Peacekeeper Award 2014 instituted by the UN for her contribution to the UN mission in Afghanistan.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad today congratulated Shakti Devi, recipient of the International Female Police Peacekeeper Award 2014 instituted by the UN for her contribution to the UN mission in Afghanistan.

"I am highly pleased to know that Shakti Devi has achieved a rare feat by dint of her hard work and devotion. She has made the state and J&K Police Department proud," Azad said.

He wished the 38-year old officer, currently deployed in the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), more success in the future.

Devi, who has 14 years of service in Jammu and Kashmir Police was honored for her "exceptional achievements" in leading the establishment of Women Police Councils in several parts of Afghanistan at a function in Winnipeg, Canada on October 14. The award was instituted by the UN Police Division.
