SANDARBH GROUP, Bal Vinay Mandir former students and Bal Vinay Mandir School organised a felicitation ceremony and birthday celebration for Maitreyi Padmanabhan ‘Badi teacher’ at the school auditorium today.

Commenting on the Montessori education system, Maitreyi Padmanabhan told Hindustan Times on the sidelines of the function that students must be taught with love and affection as they are like tender flowers. She explained that students who are given a secure and affectionate environment grow up to be responsible parents and citizens.

According to her, students who are beaten for small mistakes develop hard feelings and become aggressive. As it was the 92nd birthday of ‘Badi teacher’, many parents and former students turned up to greet her and express their gratitude. Perin Daji (veteran Communist leader Homi Daji’s wife) also participated in the programme.

Eminent educationist Prof Anil Sadgopal spoke on ‘Common Education System’ in the programme. He said that the government must set up a common pre-school education system. Prof Sadgopal further explained that privatisation of education had made it difficult for poor children to receive pre-school education. The current trend of education can be made constitutional only by starting a common system of education.

An exhibition on ‘condition of government schools in Indore’s context’ was also organsied by the students and teachers of government schools together with Rupankan and Sandarbh Group.

The exhibition comprised posters on condition of government schools, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, dropout rate, first government school in Indore, mid-day meal, etc.
