One person was killed in police firing after frenzied fans of Rajkumar resorted to violence in Bangalore on Thursday.
The incident happened near Siddalingaiah circle close to the Kanteerva Stadium, where the thespian's body had been kept to enable the people to pay their last respects, police said.
Police said they initially resorted to lathicharge and bursting of teargas shells to quell the frenzied fans but when they failed to control the situation, they resorted to firing.
As emotions ran high, police had a very tough time controlling the mourners, who included a large number of women, and had to use canes and teargas shells in the process.
"It was an outpouring of grief on a scale unprecedented in Karnataka's history," an official said.
Government offices banks, courts, educational institutions were closed during the day as a mark of respect to Rajkumar.
Vehicular traffic was thin on the roads, while shops and business establishments downed their shutters.
Meanwhile, Rajkumar's body is slated to be taken in a procession on Thursday afternoon to Kanteerava studios in Nandini layout area for funeral with full state honours.
