"I am open for a debate with him (Badal) on any date, any time and anywhere with whatever agenda," Singh told reporters while reacting to Badal's assertion earlier in the day that he would welcome the idea of debate with his successor.

On being told that Badal has maintained that "the Punjab Chief Minister is too junior for a debate with him," Singh said "I don't understand when this seniority will come.I am Chief Minister."

"In fact Badal is running away from an open debate with me," Singh asserted.

On being asked whether he would be ready for a debate with Badal's son, the Chief Minister shot back "who is Sukhbir (Sukhbir Badal)?"

Claiming that he was "fully satisfied" with the high command decision to choose Congress candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, he said "tickets were allotted on the basis of possibility of winning situation of a candidate."
