Bal Bhawan gets busy with workshops for kids

Jawahar Bal Bhawan will buzz with the activities of children for two months. The summer workshops for children have already started to keep them busy both mentally and physically.

The workshop for 'bhakti sangeet' which started on Wednesday will continue till May 27. Meant for the age group of 8-16 years, the workshop is being conducted by Deepika Bhattacharya who is a teacher at Jagat Taran Girls College. Likewise for dholak and harmonium, 30 children have enrolled themselves who will learn under the tutelage of Chandra Prakash.

Another workshop on folk dance will start from May 23 which is a 12-day event.

Children falling in the age group of 5-8 years and 13-16 years will be trained by Nisha Gaur. Handicraft workshop meant for the children above 12 years will be conducted in two phases by Smita from May 16. Madhubani painting workshop, to be conducted by Ajai Singh, will start from May 24.

Jaya Dasgupta, deputy director, Jawahar Bal Bhawan, said "Over 100 children have already enrolled themselves and many more may attend in the coming days. The yoga and karate workshops are an added advantage for those who want to keep themselves physically fit. Yoga workshop will start from May 16 while Karate workshop already started from today." The second phase of workshops will start in June. "We are planning to add the activities of magic workshop, and also workshop on preparation of snacks without any cooking in the next phase," she said. All the workshops will start from 8 am except for dholak and harmonium workshop which will start from 9 am and Madhubani painting workshop from 9.30 am.

Likewise a month long painting workshop is being conducted by Prayag Sangeet Samiti, South Malaka from May 15. Dr Shyam Bihari Agarwal, chairman of Visual Arts Department said, "Experts will be invited to guide the participants who will also deliver lectures. Participants will be awarded certificates and the paintings made during the workshops will be put up in an exhibition which will be held in the second week of July."
