ISI had placed the trio in UP to assist its module in various operations. Basic job of the three was to provide hideouts and make other arrangements for ISI agents as dictated by the bosses. Sonu, one among three, was the man who used to communicate with ISI bosses in PoK .

ASP STF Rajesh Pandey said they succeeded tracing Sonu first while going through international phone calls during the course of routine surveillance. They spotted calls made by one person from one number frequently to different numbers in South Africa, Dubai and Bangladesh.
