Two baby girls, both brutally battered by their fathers — one in Dharwad in Karnataka, another in Rajasthan’s Bikaner — died on Tuesday after battling for their lives for the past few weeks.

The one-year-old from Dharwad had cigarette burns and fractures all over her. Her father did not want a girl child, said the police.

“He had hurled her at the floor like a ball,” said attending paediatrician Dr K Shapura.

The Bikaner baby was five months old, when one day her father came home drunk, and after a bitter argument with his wife, he bit off parts of the baby’s lips, nose and cheeks.
