Ostend spokesperson Johan De Maeyer told AFP Van Herreweghe tested positive on October 12 last year following a match against Tubize when the club was still in the second division.

The nature of the product was not unveiled.

The 27-year-old Herreweghe was suspended by Flemish anti-doping officials for 18 months from July 28 and the club has referred the case to its legal advisor, De Mayer said.

It is the second doping case to be announced since the Belgian championship restarted last weekend.

Ghent announced on Saturday that their French striker Ali Lukunku had tested positive in March while he was still playing in France. His contract was suspended until a second analysis of the sample.
