Occasion was the hurriedly convened press conference that the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) had convened at UP Press Club here this evening. “Bachchan had been allotted 'gram samaj' land in Barabanki. The then district magistrate Ashish Goel had found the entry made in the revenue records in name of Bachchan wrong,” said Verma adding that he would take up the issue and may file a petition in Allahabad High Court to get the allotment cancelled.

Verma produced before media persons Satya Narain Shukla, who had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in HC challenging allotment of land to Bachchan. Shukla said he was facing threat to his life and he was under pressure to withdraw the PIL. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh and Amitabh Bachchan may be behind the threats, he said. Minister of State for PWD Arvind Singh Gop was also putting pressure on him to withdraw the PIL, said Shukla adding that he had given necessary information to district police chiefs of Barabanki, Lucknow and other authorities.

Verma said “UP Main Hai Dum, Jurm Yahan Hai Kam” campaign featuring Amitabh Bachchan stood exposed and threat to Shukla's life could be serious. About his offer to contest from Ayodhya, Verma said he was ready to contest provided his candidature was announced and supported by the Congress President.
