Best Bakery | HC admits convicts' appeal

The Bombay High Court on Monday admitted appeals filed by nine convicts challenging their sentences in the Best Bakery retrial.

All of them, namely Rajubhai Baria, Pankaj Gosai, Bahadursinh Chauhan, Jagdish Rajput, Dinesh Rajbhar, Shanabhai Baria, Shailesh Tadvi, Suresh Vasava and Sanjay Thakker, have been sentenced to life imprisonment by sessions judge Abhay Thipsay on February 24.

Some of them are sentenced, additionally, to lesser jail-terms on other counts such as arson.

Fourteen persons died when Best Bakery, located in Hanuman Tekdi area of Vadodara in Gujarat was set afire by a rampaging mob during the post-Godhra riots in March 2002.
