Intelligence failure
Vikram Sood’s article Intelligence quotient (June 21) packs a punch. But I don’t agree with his comment that the Vajpayee government did well by way of the R&AW. Kargil is a classic example of ignored intelligence, in this case due to euphoria over Pokhran II and the ‘Lahore Bus’. And since there definitely was intelligence failure, why was the R&AW chief promoted as Governor?

Apropos of the editorial Spare a thought for the urban poor (June 21), the government should realise that providing infrastructure and essential amenities to our ever-growing cities is crucial for development. Lack of funds can be countered through private sector participation.
