BHOPAL DISTRICT in banking sector has achieved 155 percent of the total target set for the fiscal 2005-06 in credit lending.

This includes 100 percent achievement in credit lending to self-help groups (SHGs). Addressing the district-level consultative committee meeting at Bank of India’s zonal office here today, Member of Parliament Kailash Joshi emphasised the banks should deal with loan disbursement cases to the beneficiaries of primary sector and other government related schemes like employment on top priority.

The committee highlighted the achievements under Swarna Jayanti Gram Rozgar Yojna and stated that 33 branches of 13 banks have disbursed Rs 1.38 crore against the target of Rs 1.25 crore to BPL beneficiaries, registering 117 percent achievement.

However, under PMRY scheme against a target of 2040 cases, sanctions have been made to 1810, whereas disbursement has been made only to 710 beneficiaries.

“Rest cases would taken care by the completion of the current fiscal,” stated Collector Sanjay Kumar Shukla, expressing his concern over the performance.

He urged the banks to bring a change in its attitude towards dealing with loan disbursement cases and said the district administration officials have strictly been working towards recovery measures.

A recovery of Rs 8 crore has been made for 2004-05. “We’ve finalised the credit plan for the next fiscal, which is of Rs 561.44 crore,” he told Hindustan Times.
