The Indo-Australian pair failed to raise themselves to the challenge posed by the fifth seeds and went down 6-7 (3/7), 3-6 in 95 minutes.
Though the first set was very evenly contested the Zimbabweans were clearly a better lot in the second as they earned as many as seven break points — converting two in the bargain — as against two by the third seeds.
They will now meet the unseeded pair of Jurgen Melzer of Austria and Alexander Waske of Germany for a place in the summit clash.
Melzer and Waske accounted for another unseeded pair of Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic and Andrei Pavel of Romania 7-6 (7/3), 7-6, (10/8) in the quarter-finals.
