Bihar officer raided, riches unearthed

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police on Friday seized land documents, bank passbooks and investment papers worth Rs 19.2 crore from the residences and office of Bhagalpur ADM Jayashree Thakur. HT reports.

A day after raiding the house of an education official who gifted his wife 1.5kg of gold jewellery from graft money, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police on Friday seized land documents, bank passbooks and investment papers worth Rs 19.2 crore from the residences and office of Bhagalpur ADM Jayashree Thakur.

A simultaneous raid at the residences and office of Shivnandan Sah, Muzaffarpur-based assistant engineer with the Building Construction Department, yielded Rs 1.52 crore in disproportionate assets.

Thakur had Rs 16crore in various banks, NSCs, bonds and insurance policies. She had also acquired 23 acres of land in Banka district, a flat in Patna and two in Bhagalpur for Rs 2.4 crore.
